International Day to end Impunity for Crimes against Journalists
Today, 2 November, marks the International Day to end Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
One thousand journalists have been killed over the past 10 years. Nine of 10 of these murders will never be solved. Impunity for such crimes is a serious threat against freedom of expression in a global perspective.
The conference Safety of Journalists – Risks, Resistance, Resilience
For several years, OsloMet has been organising conferences that address different aspects of the safety of journalists. From 2 – 4 November 2020, the research group Media, Wars and Conflicts (MEKK) organised a conference for journalists, researchers and organisations that work with journalism in areas in which safety presents a challenge.
The conference combines lectures and panel discussions in plenary sessions with parallel sessions on practical precautions to improve safety for journalists.
The Fritt Ord Foundation has provided NOK 100 000 in support for the conference.
